First edition 1686. Original leather front and back covers, new leather spine, new paste-downs and front free end papers. Multiple fold-out maps and plates. Sir John Chardin was a French jeweller and traveller. This book is regarded as one of the finest works of early Western scholarship on Safavid Iran and the near East. In very good condition. Some pages show damage to side edges, a couple of pages have a small tear to bottom of page, some fold-outs have tears that have been repaired and also not repaired.
