Chapterhouse: Dune ends with a cliffhanger, and Herbert's death the following year left many plotlines unresolved, until his son Brian Herbert and author Kevin J. Anderson published two sequels, Hunters of Dune (2006) and Sandworms of Dune (2007), based partially on notes left.
