New York: Random House, 1953. Seuss, Dr. First. hardcover. Near fine / Very good. Item #2103607
A near fine first edition in a very good dust jacket, Later printings deleted the list of Seuss books on the back. This first edition has the original material which resulted in the recent decision of the Seuss estate to cease further publication of the book. However, even the most censorial reader will be hard pressed to find anything in the book that could be considered objectionable, much less racist, and certainly not by 1950's standards. Still, bound to be a collectible artifact forever for this artist, probably the most popular creator of illustrated children's books in history, at least based on books sold, read and reread, and enjoyed by children discovering the joy of reading. The jacket is price-clipped but otherwise complete and in very good condition. This is a large format book, and so usually turns up in very poor condition. This copy is in rare collectible condition. Housed in a slipcase.
