Signed Limited edition. 1/100 signed by Picasso, of a total limited edition of 530. Picasso illustrated this essay of Diderot's with four portraits of the great thinker, whose mind "anticipated and epitomized moral, psychological, and social opportunities and stresses attending the assimilation of science into culture" (DSB 4: 84). The portraits are reproduced in lithograph print form by Mourlot Frères, Paris. There were also 430 copies printed on vélin pur Lafuma. Text in French. Housed in publisher's slipcase. One of the smallest signed limited editions by Picasso.
