Two volumes in publisher's blue cloth with the spine decorated and lettered in gilt, partial dust jackets and reinforced original publisher's slipcase, and with additional custom-made collector's slipcase. Illustrated with numerous plates including two frontispiece portraits of Edison. SIGNED in ink by Thomas Edison on the front endpaper of the first volume. Between the introduction and the half-title is a page with the statement "This book is published with my consent" over Edison's printed signature. With 2 letters from Edison's assistant, on Edison's embossed official laboratory stationary, discussing Edison signing this set for the collector, a gentleman in New York City. Signed by Edison himself, not the authors. This was Edison's only authorized biography, and he refused to sign any other books about him, as explained by his assistant in these letters. Provenance is the Heritage Auction Company. Includes the identification material from Heritage for the auction.
